On Twitter there are a range of targeting types from Interest, Handle follower Lookalikes, conversation topics more detail can be found here. Keywords are works or phrases that let advisors reach people that have recently ‘tweeted or engaged with in tweets’ this also includes when people search for topics with-in Twitter. This can be very useful for some of the below examples:

People talking about products they like and could like other productsTwitter users venting about a competitor product being bad (This might be a competitors product feature lacking quality)Talking about a related topic, for example ‘Can’t wait to go on Holiday‘ travel insurance, Clothing brands, Financial travel services, local attractions could all tap into this ideal person.

With Twitter you can have up to 1000 keywords within one ad set (Targeting group) I would not recommend running with this many but a list over 100 can take a-lot of time. So my Pro tip is to use Google’s Keyword planner to make this list for us.

Keywork planner

Googles keyword planner was made for Paid Search to help Search advertisers (The ads you see at the top of Google search results) to target people searching for those search terms.

Guide: (Alton Towers a UK based theme park will be used an example for this guide)

1. Go to: https://ads.google.com/intl/en_uk/home/tools/keyword-planner/

2. Login (Google Account required if needed go here

3. Click Tools > Planning > Click Keyword Planner

4. Click Find New Keywords

5. Enter Words, Phrases or a URL

Enter words – This could be a one broad words related to the list you need. In our case ‘Alton Towers’ or competitors ‘Thorpe Park’Phrases – This is more longer tail terms we could use things like ‘Things to do in England’. ‘Whats in Staffordshire’URL – You can place the brands page in we have put Alton Towers official website in, but you can also put competitors in.

Tip: When you see the list tap on the column called ‘Avg. monthly searches’ as this will put the most searched for terms on Google at the top of the list. I would prioritise these keywords as they will get the most scale.
